Chaja Verkerk

About Chaja

Chaja has trained in dressmaking and patterncutting in Amsterdam before embarking on her theatre costume career. For the last 7 years she has toured both nationally and internationally on big and small production, as dresser, wardrobe assistant, head of wardrobe and designer.

Alongside her work in the theatre she likes creating art from and with clothing, and other textile materials. Her work is known to explore the bigger questions of life, and allowing the audience to challenge their own thoughts and beliefs. Her first exhibition T.R.A.U.M.A. was displayed in Alphen aan den Rijn (NL) for 6 weeks in 2019, her second exhibition LOSS where she explored different types of losses and how we process them, was exhibited in July 2023 in Bristol, and October 2023 in Eastbourne.

She is owner of The Art Studios, in the Free Church URC in St Ives, where she has created a collective where she and other creatives can work and engage with the community.
